And our Christmas adventure begins

Off we go...

Kev flies back tonight and I fly back next Monday. I'm hosting a big lecture on Friday that I can't miss: details here (email me quick if you're interested).

Then Tuesday we're off to see Dad, Rocio, Chloe and my grandparents in Costa Rica... we're both super excited. We return Jan 2 to Canada for a week and will post a bunch of pictures then.

For those in Canada, we hope we can meet up for a quick visit. Kev's mom is having an open house in Jan that I'm sure all are welcome. Ring/email him for details.

If we don't see you, we hope you all have a wonderful holiday.

with Love,
Kev & Em

Grandma

On Dec 3rd, it has been 1 year since my Grandma, Betty McManus, passed away. We miss her alot, and our thoughts and prayers are with everyone at the service in London, Canada.

More friends in Cambridge

Thanks to Paolo being in town for a short school-related visit, we had a night out. P, good luck on your med school entrance to Cambridge (Wolfson). If you don't get in, you can blame us for making you sleep on the floor. Sharon was in town too, so it was a proper awesome-foursome reunion.

Sharon, we officially apologise for making you sit through the wedding video. :)

We miss you guys...

Our Oxford twins (Kev & "Lucy" from Canada) came to visit on the 17th. It was great to see them. We had a great weekend and got to see some more sites of Cambridge that were still on our todo list. It was sad to say goodbye... we miss our Oxford friends. Here, we're visiting King's College... the "chapel" is quite amazing.

When in doubt, ride the rocket!

With a surprise visit for nana's bday, Emily's mum got to spend some time down in Cambridge... and even celebrated her birthday too.

Here we're in St. Ives. This was as close as I'd get to the geese and gulls... I hate those things.

It's actually a weird thing for a country to celebrate, but then again the Brits are weird. (oops, did i say that?)

Emily took this photo and many more. Once we're online in Cambridge (officially Nov 14, but I'm not holding my breath) I'm sure she'll upload a bunch more to her flickr site.

The team was great too... a good bunch of guys. We were there at a perfect time to enjoy the wine party and see Jeff's mullet. check out Kevin's flickr site for more photos.

College football

I have joined the Emmanuel football club (Emily's college team). I've played two matches for them and we've won both. A league match and a cup match. The team was without a true keeper, so my arrival was a good fit.

Check out the awesome website for the league here: http://mens.cuafc.org/division.php?DivID=3

Thanks to Saturday's win, we've advanced in the Cuppers tournament. Check out the news section for more details.

For all you soccer guys... the competition is intense over here. I'm glad I'm a keeper...

Cambridge life

We're finally getting settled into our new house in Cambridge. Here is the Google Maps link to it (a new house, so our street isn't online yet, but soon enough). Cambourne is a small new village 8 miles west of Cambridge.

Our address is:
36 Foxhollow
Great Cambourne
Cambridgeshire
CB23 5HW

Oh... and we're getting a car soon, so we'll finally be mobile. More details soon.

New tenants

It's official, we're keeping our house in Canada for another 2 years.

On the heels of losing a fantastic family that have been living in our house for the the last 6 months, we were concerned with trying to find replacements. Thankfully, and rather quickly (thanks to Doug Howden, Royal LePage Milton), we've found a professional couple that seem to be a good fit (time will tell). Everything seems to have worked out and the tenants already have the keys. Hurray!

More on live in Cambridge soon...

Now in Cambridge

It's been a hectic week, but we've managed to rent a new house just west of Cambridge and will be living there for at least 6 months. We have a spare bedroom, so feel free to come visit!

Today, Emily was matriculated into the University of Cambridge. It was very cool to see her ceremony, and she sat beside her college Master (his bio) at the Matriculation supper... which is quite an honour. Check out this link to find out what matriculation is all about (and see a photo of the ceremony Emily was in last year).

As for me, I'm slowly getting settled in Cambridge workwise. I've already met the Emmanuel football captain and he's throwing me into a match on Saturday morning. Hopefully my knee has recovered from the move in time to play. I've also made contact with the Curling club captain, the Canadian club president and the Ice Hockey captain, so I'm sure I'll be quite busy in no time!

Once we have our photos online, and our Internet access at home sorted, we'll upload some photos. Love to all.

Emily at "The Psychometrics Centre"

Well, it's official! She's made it onto the website! For her PhD, Emily will be jointly based out of the Department of Social and Developmental Psych as well as with The Psychometrics Centre. Check out her bio:

The Psychometrics Centre does a lot of work with Harcourt, which is the company Emily used to work for in Toronto. There will be some great opportunities coming up!

Too bad I won't be able to play with the team from Cambridge. I helped them kick off the season with a win, but will be leaving soon. Good luck boys!!

Celebrating Sharon's bday

100_4347, originally uploaded by Oxford Emi.

It was Sharon's birthday last week, so we bounced around town partying on Saturday (probably our last weekend all together in Oxford).

Definitely fun! God love our friends, but I don't know if I can handle too many more late nights.

Good luck to Paolo who is writing his med entrance exam on Monday.

sad to be leaving Oxford

Our time in Oxford is winding down. We've had a great year. View the two galleries we've created reflecting on our amazing year. We made some amazing friends and have had some awesome adventures. Feel free to post your comments

Here is a view of the river Cam a month or so ago. This will be our new home very shortly.
For those who don't know, Emily has been accepted at Cambridge and we've decided to take the offer (thanks to some generous funding), so now Emily is making the rare leap from Dark Blue to Light Blue. We're currently looking for a place to live and should have more details soon.
